Sebastien Ogier is the new WRC 2018 Champion

18/11/2018

SÉBASTIEN OGIER CLINCHED HIS SIXTH CONSECUTIVE FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE IN AUSTRALIA ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

A measured drive to fifth in a dramatic Kennards Hire Rally Australia finale proved more than enough for the French Ford Fiesta driver after final day challenges from Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville ended in accidents.

Tänak retired his Toyota Yaris in the penultimate speed test after hitting a tree. Shortly before, Neuville swiped a bank and ripped the rear left wheel from his i20.

Jari-Matti Latvala won the rally by 32.5sec in a Yaris from Hayden Paddon’s i20, securing the manufacturers’ title for Toyota Gazoo Racing. Mads Østberg finished third in a Citroën C3, a further 19.7sec back.
